Watching the difference between the Twitter migration mentality vs. the Reddit migration mentality is fucking hilarious.
Like, when Twitter users started moving over here everyone was pulling out all the stops and bringing back old fandoms that they were into and basically firing rent lowering shots by being super cringey.
And then all of the sudden when the Reddit refugees start showing up we’re like, “ah yes, pull up a log and gather around the dumpster fire. We’ll teach you how to not get killed by people hunting down bots and carve out a little area for you guys to relax and get used to the site before we throw you into the deep end of this hellsite that we call home. Tomorrow is Let Papyrus say Fuck day so you can prepare for that if you want. You want some hot coco and a blanket?”
I’m sure it has nothing to do with Reddit actually having some useful advice and Twitter being trump and musk’s favorite
i hope everyone knows that the last wga strike was ~100 days and it’s a pretty common phenomenon for strike support to tank after a month or two when it feels like it’s dragging on and some writers and talk show hosts are crossing picket lines and trying to “return” to “normal” because of people’s livelihoods etc when they’re really just scabs. sure hope that we keep that in mind and are prepared for the long haul and aren’t just in it while it’s convenient for us <3
A big part of cultivating creative discipline is accepting that you can’t just sit around waiting for inspiration to strike and learning how to write without it, but the other half is learning never to let inspiration go to waste when it does strike.
If you’ve got an idea for something that you’ll never be able to show to anyone else – maybe it’s too personal, maybe it’s too pornographic, maybe it just doesn’t fit your idiom – you should absolutely go ahead and write it anyway.
This isn’t a “write for yourself” thing (and there’s no shame in being uninterested in writing for yourself – art is about communication!): it’s a “building your portfolio” thing. Self-plagiarism is one of the most fundamental skills of any artist, and you never know what random scribble is going to turn up exactly what’s needed for some seemingly unrelated project later on.
Like, it’s not likely that that grotesquely self-indulgent character piece where your fandom crush inexplicably has three dicks will randomly prove to contain the missing ingredient for that novel you’ve been procrastinating on writing, but it can never entirely be ruled out!
when people are like “the hunger games just stole the plot of battle royale” like listen everything steals from the plot of everything the lion king is just furry hamlet westworld is jurassic park but sexier lost is edgy gilligan’s island there are no original stories and the only good piece of media is jennifer’s body
Michael crichton wrote westworld and jurassic park tho so he just pirated himself
michael crichton keeps TRYING to tell y’all about the evils of capitalism impeding on the progress of science when will y’all LISTEN
Maybe he just doesn’t like theme parks
michael crichton in line for a roller coaster at six flags: fuck this
Jesus Christ, that’s the height at which every rollercoaster and dark ride is a decapitation threat
how am I ever supposed to leave tumblr when it takes me on journeys like this
